Homework w/e 19.1.15 - IN DOG WE TRUST
IN DOG WE TRUST … Maureen Clifford © The #ScribblyBark Poet
You can sing for your supper – ask for a reprieve
if you’re human and you have a voice,
but when you’re a dog it’s not easy to do
and quite often they don’t have a choice.
They’ve a gusto for life that most humans don’t share
be it chasing a ball or a rabbit
and sometimes alas they get naughty when bored
if not stopped it becomes a bad habit.
But most dogs are honest, most humans are not -
humanity is corruptible.
Given the circumstances that just might suit,
tenure on life’s interruptible.
If one offers money or offers a deal
advantageous to those one would bribe,
be it cash, land or goods, cigarettes or fine wine
chances are there are those who’ll imbibe.
But offer a dog most of these things and see
his complete indifference to all;
the only thing likely to seduce his ethics …
a ham sandwich or rubber ball.

But a human won't bite the doctor who touches them to examine their illness.

Neither will most dogs Neville

Inbuilt loyalty - if we all displayed it as well as dogs do - well, enough said! I enjoyed your poetic doggy portrait, Maureen.
