homework 16/11/15

Post by Neville Briggs » Wed Nov 04, 2015 6:31 am

THE BEACH

I'll go once again to the foaming white waves
where the bluebottles sting my toes.
Where the seaweed is smelling,
the tall breakers swelling
and salty surf gets up my nose.

I love the old charm of the beach shark alarm
and the life savers drown-proof zone.
In that fresh ocean breeze
there I scraped both my knees
when I slipped on a squashed ice-cream cone.

I'll sluice in the briny, then soak in the sun
as the seagulls pinch my chips;
let the wind blow the sand
on my towel, as I'm tanned
with raw blisters and painful chapped lips.

I'm getting an idea here Neville that the beach is not your favourite place to be  What a litany of disasters your day out held :( Have you considered golf? You have made good use of the prompts - well done ;)

It's a bit of verse Maureen, ;)

I quite enjoy the beach, but I can't take the sun for very long, I've got the skin like your Scottish man.

Aarrghh! Sand between the toes - what next??

Sounds like your idea of "camping rough in the great outdoors" is Palazzo Versace with a window open, Neville!! ;)

Love it!

Thanks for the comments, Catherine, Shelley, Heather. That bizarre narrator that creeps into my verse seems to have a penchant for chips , Heather.

That's the subconscious hankering for all the things the doctor says you can't have Neville! (such a defiant little subconscious!)

It's the Aussie culture, could you ever get a plate of food in a pub, club or café that didn't have chips plonked on it.

Going to the beach without getting a bag of chips is unthinkable !!! Every beach has a chip shop. :)

What is it about the beach and chips? Or is it the subconscious again saying, sea.....fish live in the sea ..... fish goes with chips. When I was at Port Stephens a while back I HAD to have fish and chips on the beach at sunset, and while the sunset and the scenery were gorgeous, the fish and chips let me down badly. :)
