THAT MERRY DANCE

The witching hour does set upon
young love, for lovers must be gone
before the tolling of the bell.
The watchful midnight sentinel
does hasten maidens off to bed
lest taboo words may well be said -
those promises that they won't keep,
the lover's pledge in lieu of sleep.
Yet swept up in a perfumed bliss
they steal one final farewell kiss.
That merry dance that lovers do
before they bid 'adieu, adieu'
