Homework for week ending 14/11/15

Post by Wendy Seddon » Thu Dec 03, 2015 1:43 pm

The Heavens opened,
the whole world shook
at a sound like a chainsaw roar,
we cowered scared and trembling
behind a thin wood door.

The cat with fur
in mottled tones,
just like a spume flecked shore,
tried to scratch a new way out
right through that thin white door.

Storms’ lowering clouds
in greenish skies
have nothing on the way
the walls and roof came closing in
on our frightened brood that day.

If lashing winds
and driving rain
decide a tempests’ force
then we knew such a battering
though from a different source.

River crossings
running deep
are not as deep by far
as the wrath of a youth
when calmly told…
“You cannot take the car!”

Nicely done Wendy - storm season is pretty scary isn't it - how did the little ones cope with it all?

Yes Maureen it can be. I was kind of getting at that particular storm actually being the teenager.
Did that not come across?

Oh it did Wendy - I got the reference to the car in the poem. I was just taking the opportunity to ask after your littlies

Oh! yes. Thank you. I have a new granddaughter - Dorrit Danger Cooper.
She lives in the UAE so I am going over at Christmas to meet her.

Not a "Little Dorrit" though - 9lb and 55 cms long!
Her dad is 6'8" and her mum is 6' so she wasn't going to be tiny. :D

Ha ha, Wendy! I love a good punchline! Such a strong set of prompts would naturally lead to the obvious interpretation, so good on you for coming out of left field.

It reminds me of a poem I read years ago by Elsie Pearson, which gave a vivid account of a terrible fight with scissors as a weapon. Just when you thought she was either killing her husband or repelling and intruder - in came the punchline and the packet of soap was eventually opened!!

Cheers, Shelley

Made me laugh that last line. Wasn't expecting it. Good one.
