Homework W/E June 6: The Dedicated Rhymer

Post by David Campbell » Wed May 25, 2016 7:43 pm

The Dedicated Rhymer

My favourite thingies are metre and rhyme,
and poems without them are simply a crime!
So I always use good metre,
(Bloody hell, what rhymes with metre?)
but maybe not the same one all the time!

All that free verse stuff is rubbish,
lots of ah…um…dum-de-ubbish,
and I’ll never make that leap into the dark.
Though across the globe they’re writing it,
it’s not needed and I’m fighting it;
it’s as useless as a duck without a…quark?

So get used to it, you peasants!
Like fine dining goes with pheasants
I am wedded to the good old metric foot.
I’m a dedicated rhymer
and a zealous paradigmer…
though it sometimes means that words are backwards put!

"Wicked" doesn't scratch the surface, Neville. This is the censored version! ;)

Glad you enjoyed it, Catherine, and thanks, Shelley...I'm watching the space.

Cheers

Love words being 'backward put', Sometimes it's the only way!

Apologies in advance for this, David - but I simply can't resist!!

"Bloody hell! What rhymes with metre?"
My response could not be fleeter
lest your poetry should peter
out and you’d be forced to beat a
path downtown in your four-seater
to the bookstore where a neater
row of books might be the key ter
finding words that rhyme with metre.

So I poured a Margarita
put my CD on “repeater”
and for brain food tried to eat a
dish of sardines by the litre
but on Google search I teeter
searching Facebook scrolling Tweeter
yet I still cannot complete a
single word to rhyme with metre!

I like backward put rhymes  and Shelley that is a classic response.
as useless as a duck without a…quark?
It crossed my mind to ask why a duck would need soft cheese David - but I am sure you have a reasonable explanation.

Clever use of the prompts you have made here :? Thinking outside the set paradigms
