Homework W/E 15th August - Wounded Alien Pride.

Post by Wendy Seddon » Tue Aug 09, 2016 3:21 pm

An alien adventure force from somewhere near the Sun
stopped upon the Earth to do repairs,
inspection of the fleet revealed there was a hole in one
and so they went out searching for some spares.

They prayed awhile unto their spirits of community
that they’d be safe upon this unknown sphere
they got that sinking feeling though when foreign gravity
near swallowed them all up with all their gear!

They found discarded backhoes and some excavators too
all rusting on a local council tip
they’d harvest all the pistons and a steering wheel or two,
to make repairs and then resume their trip.

Between them and the things they sought – (the bravest hid a shiver),
a thing they’d never had to face before,
the swollen, raging tumult of a wrathful flooded river,
they couldn’t hear their chief above the roar!

So in the end collected all the cans that they could see,
just thrown away along the riverside,
they cut and spliced and welded and made use of the debris
to fly away with grossly wounded pride!

Love it Wendy! Talk about thinking outside the square - I wasn't in the race!

I'll bet your grandson loves this one too! :D

Cheers

Well done Wendy... that is some imagination you have used for this one. Good fun and refreshingly different, making great use of the prompts.

Ingenious, Wendy. Between you, Maureen and Shelley, I reckon you've pretty much exhausted all the backhoe/excavator poetic possibilities!

Cheers
