Homework WE 29/8/16 - Charade

Post by Shelley Hansen » Tue Aug 16, 2016 11:08 pm

Well, Maureen, your free verse has inspired me to try something different. It's not free verse, but it's a bit out of left field. Not sure if it works or not, but I'm sure someone will tell me! ;)

CHARADE
(c) Shelley Hansen 15/8/16

you've lost that lovin' feelin' ....

music makes memories bitter and sweet
walk back in time to a far distant street
feel how the rhythm aligns to the beat
of your heart

oo-oh that lovin' feelin' ....

crooners and swooners make heartache sound good
mask your emotion draw down a dark hood
would you retrace those old steps if you could
from the start

you've lost that lovin' feelin' ....

listen to those living legends who sing
meaningless words to impersonate swing
while you're pretending you don't feel a thing
play the part

now it's gone ... gone ... gone ...

Ah, the Righteous Brothers, and one of the great songs of all time. It always gets to me, so I can't agree with the "meaningless" reference in this case, Shelley, although it's a neat way to work in the "loving feeling" prompt...I like that structure. Now if only the prompt had been "it's not unusual" we could have had some Tom Jones instead! :D

Cheers
David

It's not unusual to have that loving feeling David  and I like what you have done with these prompts Shelley but then left field always works well IMO so good on you for going there. Nicely done and far from meaningless.

Thanks David and Maureen!

Yes, you are right, David - the words are far from meaningless, though perhaps "it's not unusual" that a person going through the "charade" of trying to look normal when their world is falling apart might cynically think so. ;)

Can't get the song out of my head now ... "you've lost mmmm mmm-mmm mmmm-mmm" :)

Cheers
