FINDING PERSPECTIVE
(c) Shelley Hansen 16/3/19
Out on the vastness of the Nullarbor Plain
time doesn't matter any more.
Things that enslave us and pursuits that are vain
lose their position at the fore.
Down by the Warrego the writhing waves wash,
borne by the flooding from the north -
boundless and bountiful, the drought's grip to quash,
wild flowered grasses bursting forth.
Red kangaroos abound in wide scattered bush,
resting by day from summer sun.
Bold, raucous cockies jostle loudly and push
turning their feeding into fun.
Fake news surrounds us with its landscape of lies,
no inhibitions brooked by men.
We need reality beneath endless skies -
finding perspective once again.

You've managed to weave the prompts into a little philosophical piece, Shelley . A sort of found poem.
I find it difficult to put together an original thought from phrases that someone else has made, particularly if that includes adjectives.

Yes I agree Neville - often the way someone else puts it is not exactly how we might say it ourselves.
Therein lies the challenge, I guess!

Nicely done Shelley - you put the prompts to good use in this piece - like the use of the word quash as well, a little different from the usual words used to describe ending the drought. Good one

Thanks Maureen.
Yes "quash" is one of those words we don't hear as much any more. Certainly not from the OMG LOL generation!
