PIGGING OUT … Maureen Clifford © The #ScribblyBark Poet
Saturday night. He’s drunk with fatigue.
On the back of the Ute
a boars head wrapped in old sacking -
ready to toss into the pig trap
to extract a touch of vengeance.
Only at the movies
do the dark and deceitful faces in the crowd
continue to surface
like people trapped in a time warp.
In real life
standing enjoying a coffee in the sun
with the scent of eucalyptus
getting stronger as the day heats up -
life is often too lonely.
Truths are often never found,
finalities to problems often never discovered.
One just limps on, viewing life through misty panes,
doing the best one can with what one has;
putting one foot in front of the other
over and over again – always with the hope
that tomorrow will be better.
But for now – smothering dreams he had,
his main objective is to bait his trap
and capture the dark and deceitful marauder
who has almost brought him to his knees.

Wow, that's a different use of the prompts, Maureen.
One that begs a second and third reading - lots of hidden stuff behind the scenes!
Cheers

Wow, Maureen, this is indeed a great poem to read a few times over, and one that packs quite a punch. Very original and clever, and some stand out lines there too - Love those last two.

Hi Maureen.
Reminds me of my mate in my Bush Tucker Poem - I think?
I'm a bit out of my depth here Maureen - not unusual for me though - certainly gets the little grey cells fired up.
