Homework 6/1/20 The Old Home Town
Had to fudge a little to get something written before the 6th
The old home Town
Once again, I see the old homestead the way it was before
and the sounds of lowing cattle, brings back memories once more.
I imagine that they’re feeding with the paddocks at their best;
out there in the rising wind, they’ve turned their faces to the west.
I can see the mighty forest as I look out from our home,
with the mighty Karri growing where before we used to roam.
Then the memories start fading as my mind now clears at last,
while reluctantly emerging from the shadows of the past.
Then awakened from my dreams, I face reality once more,
standing there besides the ashes where the old house stood before.
Now the bracken smothers paddocks that were pastures long ago,
and the creeks just barely trickle where the willows used to grow.

There's a lot of that around now, Terry. Good to see you appearing, first for the new year, Happy New Year ( we hope

Thanks Neville
Same to you, and listening to what's happening over your way, happiness is in short supply for so many there at the moment.
As mentioned I fudged a bit with this one by pinching a few lines from other poems - Must get back to more serious writing one of these days.
Take care Neville hope you manage to dodge the worst of the fires.

Sad and topical, Terry - I really like this one; there are many images and feelings conveyed so well

Another fine example of "less is more", Terry. Just a few words, saying so much.

Thanks Catherine and Shelley,
It's about time I wrote a proper one I reckon - maybe next time?
It's only for the fun and enjoyment and friendship found here that induces me to hang around.
Which reminds me I'd better pay up soon I guess.
Cheers

Good one Terry - such a shame that its words ring so true at the moment, many people will be relating to this poem over the months to come I suspect, some indeed will be perhaps our own poets, several of whom have been impacted by these fires. And here I was hoping that 2020 would be a good year for all of us
Still can only get better I hope. Thank you for sharing your poem with us all.

Thanks Maureen
Strangely enough I have been working on an expanded version that of this poem.
The aim is to try and cover some of the horror, sadness and dare I say heartbreak,
that those fires have wrought upon the many communities involved.
It will be hard to even get close to doing justice, to what those people have been through.
