The COVID Boast
(c) Shelley Hansen 15/6/20
The world is in lockdown, and I’m here at home –
“at risk” (so they tell me), unable to roam.
I’m meeting the challenge the way I know best
by cramming my time, scarcely taking a rest!
I’ve got a “to do” list, just waiting the chance
to tackle the tasks I’ve set out in advance.
I’ve digitised almost five decades of slides
and sorted out hundreds of photos besides.
I’ve spring-cleaned the kitchen, the pantry’s done too -
the recipe book is refurbished like new!
The lawn grubs are gone – thanks to butcher-bird skill –
we banded together to round off “the kill”!
I’m looking around and I’m feeling quite good
to see the place shaping up just like it should.
The pressure’s released – things are torn down and built –
And there’s not a skerrick of “stay-at-home” guilt!
The long road ahead may have crossroads in store,
the Aussie way may not be clear, as before.
We mightn’t boast much – but one thing we sure can –
our houses have never been this spick and span!

Hi Shelley
You have been a busy girl, kind of puts my puny efforts to shame.
And as always very well written to by the way.
Mind you I have a mini market garden producing lots of vegetables,
and I have actually written a couple of new poems - not bad for an old bloke.
Cheers and good luck with all those jobs still do.

Thanks Terry! You've done better than I have on both the gardening and poetry front!
Gardening is not my forte at all although it is great to reap produce! As for my Muse ... lockdown has certainly buttoned her up! No poetry here!!

Yep - good one, Shelley! Most of my projects have involved massive culling. It's amazing the amount of papers I've accumulated which I really don't need, from copious photos that are online anyway, to old scrapbooks, books, clothes and even kitchenware. I did make a fresh start on the recipe book as well, but I'm not a big fan of the kitchen so as of now this remains incomplete!

Well done you - you have been a busy lady and managing to fit in a new poem as well - I dips me lid to ya - my muse seems to have departed for the winter

Thanks Catherine and Maureen
Seems like we've all been tackling projects of one kind or another!
Maureen, I'm amazed! I thought your muse was immortal! Sorry she's gone on holidays, but mine's gone too, so they're probably off somewhere together enjoying the good life!!!
