That's another old Aussie saying that I just happened to think of for some reason. :)

There's another that my mother used to use if she thought I looked untidy ( which was often )
" you look like the wreck of the Hesperus " I wonder how widely that was used.

My Mum also used as did I - you look like you've been dragged through a bush backwards - and - you are not going out looking like a waif and stray.
