I don't know whether it could be a contrast in poetic intent but certainly a difference in point of view. Interesting how Slessor seems to be speaking of the country train ride as an uncomfortable passage to endure from necessity, Henry seems to be more interested in the train as a sort of metaphorical road to paradise.

In a day of complete surprises my wife came home yesterday with a copy of 'Selected Poems' by Kenneth Slessor found in an Op Shop. Despite her doubts after reading a couple of poems, she decided to buy it for me - she paid a princely sum of $2 for a book in excellent condition.
I haven't been following this thread but had noted the it was being discussed. I've only had time to browse a couple of poems but will have a closer look at it soon.
