I'll bet Stephen that you are a great fan of Ford Prefect and The Hitchhikers Guide to the Universe.

In The Great String Robbery ( The Goons ) Harry Secombe is shown two pieces of string lying apart and is told by Peter Sellers that a thief has cut a piece out of the middle and taken it. Harry then puts the two pieces together and explains that when you put the two pieces together, the outside ends get shorter. He concludes that the thief has cut off two pieces from either end, cut the middle and moved the pieces apart, giving the impression that one piece from the middle has been stolen when in fact he has stolen two outside pieces of string. The investigation must look for two stolen strings not just one.
Spike Milligan was a genius at these hilarious logical illogicals.

String Theory is just that, a Theory ... it's not a quest for 'answers' but for better Questions.
(We have all the 'answers' already in a book that is filled with errors and contradictions - mostly hammered into a point of view, then glibly quoted to justify a position of control)

As for seeing the bigger picture (Thank you Science) the enormity of our wider expanse and our fragile existence gives me inspiration. I see ...

Irene has posted a poem about the pain of loss. There not a scientist that ever lived and worked who could ever " explain " why we feel pain the way we do. In that vast expanse of the universe where I wonder is the string that makes the ties of love.

The book you referred to Manfred certainly does not contain all the answers. Maybe it answers what we need to know.

Marty, I know how far the Earth moved in the last year. Why can't somebody just tell me how far the Sun moved in the same period of time?

Do you mean the arc of the Sun's movement, in degrees from the centre of our (expanding) Spiraling Galaxy?

This may help ...
The Sun (and therefore the Earth and the Solar System) may be found close to the inner rim of the galaxy's Orion Arm, at a distance of 8.33 ± 0.35 kiloparsecs (27,200 ± 1,100 ly) from the Galactic Center.
Depending on its structure the entire galaxy has a rotational rate of 1 per 15 to 50 million years. The galaxy is also moving at a rate of 552 to 630 km per second depending on the relative frame of reference.

In poetry-land are poems like sand
that slip through your fingers,
though memory lingers
of visions, so fleeting, you’ve held in your hand.

And poems of gold in tales that are told
of beauty and yearning
that leave your heart burning

your own special writing,

Can I also say - I like the way you have used the thread to point to the correct place to post the actual poem. I will try to remember to do this in future. It also occurred to me that this gives the viewer the choice of making the effort of going to the poems section and reading the poem, if they so wish. What was the poem called? .. Oh well I'm sure to find it.
