Casting a spell

CASTING A SPELL

The pedants are brewing, they're boiling and stewing;
they're making a functional spell.
They hitch up their drawers and they sharpen their claws,
show their teeth like a vision from hell.

The pedants are moulding pernicious concoctions
while glinting and glistening, gloating and glaring
with sharp evil eyes. They have cooked up a notion
to cast a strong spell that is brutal; unsparing.

You girls and you fellas, all haphazard spellers,
They see you
They'll get you
They're after your hide.
They heckle and giggle and cackle and niggle
to spy out heretical graphemic sin.

Your lexicological knowledge so short
makes all the bad spelling that they're sure to see.
Your fingers like sausages fumbling those keys !
They'll hex you, they'll vex you, they'll zap you with glee.

There is a good chance to escape pedants' spells.
Take care, check your spelling, I strongly advise.
Your writing will glow with the polish of skill
and be saved from the wrath of the spell pedants' eyes.

Thanks Maureen.

Thanks Heather. I was actually inspired to do a harangue after reading one of John Whitworth's poems about burglars lurking in the bushes.

Thanks for the reply Marty.

G'day Neville,

It is a cute idea. I really like the thought of witches stirring a pot to make a spell to zapp all bad spellers. Will this said 'zapp' cause the victim to be a better speller? If it was that simple I'd willingly offer myself as a test dummy. One of my many faults is not being a natural speller. Another is making evrything about me. I'll go..

G'day Zondrae, thanks for the reply. Everyone makes mistakes.
I was trying to do two things.
Make an appeal to take care with what we present, we call this our craft. Crafts-men and women take pride in a quality product don't they ? The stuff we put on here is on worldwide public display.
And to see how I could play around with a few interesting words and rhythms.

I saw your pieces in the Mag to-day Zondrae. You come up well. Good poems too.

Good on ya Heather.
