GREAT ODDS

GREAT ODDS

He had a fifty fifty chance they said – he thought those odds were fair,
though it could go any which way. But did he really care?
When at the bottom looking up you can no further fall
so fifty fifty seemed to him to be good overall.

She had to make a choice today and tell them date and time
the odds were fifty fifty that the day would turn out fine.
A girl only gets married once or so she’d like to think.
She settled for a Saturday, and chose a theme in pink.

They said the horse could win the race but then again might not.
They said it was in fine form and really hot to trot.
The odds were stacked against him but all there did agree
that he had a fifty fifty chance – so place a bet and see.

Well it all sounds fine in theory and decisions must be made,
when fate deals out the hand then that’s the hand that must be played.
Each night you go to bed to sleep – as at your clock you glance
does if tell you in red numerals you’ve a fifty fifty chance?

There’s a chance you may rise with the sun, but then you just may not.
There’s a chance you’ll get to work on time without losing the plot.
There’s a chance that you might get a raise, but then you could get fired.
There’s a chance you’ll live forever, though your use by date’s expired.

But while taking into good account the odds as they are spouted
one should have all of the facts at hand thought these are not oft touted.
Always throw away the negative and go with what feels strong
there’s a fifty fifty chance you’re right – but ninety percent chance you’re wrong.

Our lives had a beginning and there's a 100% chance that our lives will end.
