HOME JUST IN TIME FOR CHRISTMAS

Post by Maureen K Clifford » Tue Dec 20, 2011 11:26 am

This was kicked off by a couple of things.

The knowledge that the American troops in Afghanistan have a well supported Puppy Rescue Mission in place for Afghanistan strays and all donations are totally tax deductible so obviously their Government support it, and yet there is some doubt as to whether our own dogs of war will be returned to Australia after their deployment due to our quarantine regulations.

The last American troops have been pulled out of Iraq now - and no doubt some little girl will be getting a puppy for Christmas that started it's life in a war torn country and probably copped nothing but abuse until some soldiers took pity on it. The Afghanistan people actually cut off the ears of dogs - can you believe...well yes of course we can and do....if they stone women where does a dog fit in the chain.

I am sure they have stray dogs in the USA as well but this IMO is a great gesture shown to these little furballs.

A post recently contributed to the ABC Pool site which was quirky enough to get me to write this poem.

Definition -

Windering: the passive way of asking someone to do something ... "I'm just windering ...". Also important to twist body and fingers like a spoilt little princess while windering - an unconquerable way of asking

Sighning: the groaning way some authors sign their books for readers

HOME JUST IN TIME FOR CHRISTMAS

‘I’m just windering’ she said “if Dad would let me have a dog,
for I’d really like a puppy of my own?
It would be someone to play with, and to talk to when I’m lonely
which I am you know when Dad is not at home.
I think I’ll write a letter to him now and ask him may I.
Do you think that he’ll be home at Christmas time?
Or will he still be at war? What is he over there for?
If he was home he’d sit and read me Nursery Rhymes.

So she sat and wrote her letter in her childish scrawling way
and drew a picture of the puppy she would like.
But she covered all her bases for some more pictures were drawn
a Barbie Doll, some more books and a bright pink bike.
She sighned the letter Annabelle – a big explosive sigh
escaped her lips as she put kisses at the end.
She’d asked if he might come home to be here on Christmas Day
and told him he was her very bestest friend.

Her wishes they were answered, he strode up the garden path
in his uniform. He smiled, his face looked weary.
He rang the bell, his princess ran to open up the door,
the reunion was happy but quite teary.
She stood before him legs entwined and hands twisting together
dressed in pink and pretty as a girl can be.
“I’m windering Daddy do you think that I might have a dog?
For I’d really love to have my own puppy.’

He looked above her head - his deep blue eyes winked at me
as he held his Princess close in loving arms.
The kitbag that he’d placed beside the door when he came in
gave a whimper which caused the child great alarm.
The kitbag did a shuffle, kind of moved across the floor
and the canvas sides looked as if they were breathing.
Which of course is quite impossible – so what was going on?
Best go look and see who this bag is deceiving.

He opened up the zipper and a golden fluffy head
popped right out and gave a yawn and looked around.
‘Seems he is looking for a home Annabelle’ her Daddy said
‘and I knew exactly where one could be found.’

Maureen, I think that you meant the troop withdrawal from Iraq. As far as I know, the western military presence is still going in Afghanistan.
