THE WORDSMITHS CUP
THE WORDSMITHS CUP
Seeing as to how tomorrow is Melbourne Cup Day and seeing as to how we have our own share of winners this kind of jumped into my head - written with no fear or favour - 'cause I didn't pick the winner anyway
THE WORDSMITHS CUP
Right oh Ladies and Gentlemen ...........
We are under starters orders they are queuing at the gate
Old Bill is getting toey and Marty can hardly wait
Peely's tossing his head around Miss Zondrae's in a flap
but Glenny Girl is calm and steady, Heathers Hope's taking a nap.
They're off – they're off - oh Holy Moly what a brilliant start
see them racing, forward facing – Lucky that – they've got good heart,
and today Ladies and Gentlemen is beautiful – don't you agree
that we couldn't have a better day for Aussie Poetry
Oh – there's a stumble, no he's right, think it was Delaney's Call,
but he's back in there and running – doesn't seem to fazed at all;
and the long shot on the rail that sweet lovely grey mare
don't discount her folks, she's a stayer, quite achiever but she's there.
And there's that Mare from Jurien – across from WA
keep an eye on her folks 'cause she just might beat the grey.
Old Bill is really battling – he's not down for the count -
neck and neck with Miss Zondrae – he's an old bush country mount.
Campbell's Kingdom is under the whip – the old blokes really striving
hard pressed by Delaney's Call and Piggott's Prides arriving
on the fence – he sees an opening quick as lightening he's through.
Number nine wearing the white cap ---- and here comes Moody Blue
Moody Blue's in the running – he's not been beaten yet
and Walla Walla has a chance – always an each way bet
A Walk on the Whiteside is running hard on the rails
with Nobbly Nev behind him almost clinging to his tail.
Don't you just love the races folks? A day that's hard to beat.
To share a beer with mates and friends – stand yarning in the heat.
Oh look Tru Blu and Old Bill are running flank to flank
and I never had a bet on them - no money in my bank.
But at end of day no matter who crosses first past the post
each and every one a winner – all of them can truly boast
that the Wordsmiths Cup they entered and the Wordsmiths Cup they ran
and they all write great Bush Poetry – because they bloody can.

Gee Maureen,
You make a girl blush to be included in a field like that. You must have been Christened by a Leprechaun who gave you a touch of the Blarney. You certainly have a gift in putting ideas on paper. Great to read and I agree with the judges decision.

Hey, great poem Maureen!!!
Quick off the mark as usual!
We have a lot of catching up to do now, haven't we???
Shame to see everything disappear, but at least we can post our old poems again that we have all forgotten about!!!

And
does that make them now eligible to go into Comps since they are no longer published. Like Lazarus or viagra - they rise again.
Cheers

Ha Ha, goodonya Maureen very clever. I wouldn't like to have to pick a winner from that field.
I was thinking the same as you about the 'lost poetry', uumhh no longer published. Every cloud has a silver lining.
