GOSFORD BUSH POETS
GOSFORD BUSH POETS
"With eyes half-shut to the blinding dust,
And necks to the yoke bent low,
The beasts are pulling as bullocks must;
And the shining tyres might almost rust
While the spokes are turning slow..."
(from The Teams, Henry Lawson.)
G'day Everyone,
The seventeenth of this month marked the 145th anniversary of the birth of Henry Lawson and when the Gosford Bush Poets meet at 7pm next Wednesday night (27/6) at the brilliant Gosford Hotel, we will do our best to commemorate Henry's birthday and his wonderful legacy of marvellous poetry.
We shan't be having a guest artist this month which means we will each have the opportunity of presenting two items and we hope you can dig out one of your favourite Lawson poems for the occasion.
Everyone is invited to come along and join in the fun and entrance is absolutely free. We would dearly love to see you join us for dinner in the hotel's bistro from 5.30pm onwards. The tucker is extraordinarily good and reasonably priced.
Looking forward to seeing you on Wednesday night,
Vic Jefferies

Any chance of video-conferencing the evening, Vic?

Grand idea Stephen but I am afraid our technical expertise doesn't run to that.

Wow, what a great idea,
I'd be very keen to 'log in' to a 'live cross' to an event like this.
I have been having so much trouble with my optus set up that I am very close to 'jumping into the big pond'.
However my 'gmail' email address will be retained.

Re: GOSFORD BUSH POETS
Brilliant night last night at the Gosford Bush Poets with forty people turning up to help us celebrate Henry's birthday.
Some great interpretations of many of Henry's poems and works including three marvelous songs by our resident Nick Lock and a wonderful reading from The Drover's Wife by Jill Nevile.
We had a number of first time visitors who thoroughly enjoyed the poetry and presentations during the evening and were amazed at the talent on display.

Sounds like a great show, Vic. I was invited by the Henry Lawson Society to read at a similar event in South Melbourne, but it took place on a Friday morning, and I couldn't attend because I was working. I guess quite a number of similar celebrations took place around the country.

'Twas indeed a good night Stephen but unfortunately I don't think Henry's birthday receives the attention that it should.

No, I'm sure you're right. Maybe we'll see a better turn-out for the 150th.
