Taking The Short Cut (It Never Fails)
Stephen Whiteside 12.12.2012
Do you clip your nails or bite them or attack them with a cheese grater?
Do you brush your teeth and floss your gums, or say "I'll do them later"?
Do you exercise quite regular, or simply loll around?
Are you trim and taut and poised to spring, or are you fat and round?
Do you pinch your husband's tablets from the kitchen cupboard shelf?
Do you take last years' Amoxil? Do you diagnose yourself?
Will you have a mammogram next year, and try that little kit
That's posted to you for you to use when you go to the toilet?
Do you have a local doctor who's become your trusted friend?
Or do you put it off until you're halfway round the bend,
Than grab whatever's going at whatever clinic's free?
Is he just the local quack, eh?, or the 'tried and true' GP?
Do you have a fear of needles that was picked up long ago?
Perhaps you feel, if something's wrong, you just don't want to know?
Is it simpler helping others than attending your own ills?
Do you fear you'll get addicted to the potions and the pills?
Do you trust your hand to Nature? Do you scorn technology?
Will prescriptions just restrain you? Do you lie low to stay free?
Will herbs prove your salvation? Will a clutch of vitamins
Patch the cracks and plug the holes and save you from your sins?
Do you view things as a fatalist? "Ah, what will be will be!"
Or perhaps you're in denial? "There is nothing wrong with me!"
Do you face the world each morning with a stagger and a groan?
Take heart, my fellow punter, for I know you're not alone!

I don't think there's anyone you haven't covered there Stephen. You should have the poem and put in doctors' surgeries around the country. Enjoyed the read.

When I go to the GP he always greets me with " How are you going " I say " I wouldn't be here if I was fine would I ? " I think that he thinks I'm very strange... He's right
Just a little trivia you might note Stephen. The local dentist over at the town of Dungog has his name on a sign out the front of his room.
His nameplate says Dr. Patience
