BOLD MAGGIE

Post by Maureen K Clifford » Sat Jun 08, 2013 1:45 pm

My number 1 son and DIL are touring Vietnam for 9 weeks (again) they love it there and don't do the tourist thing but rather eat and mix with the locals - however he is a little daunted as the hotel he has booked this time in Da nang whilst being neat and clean with great views and everything they need, is an area where very few speak English (fair enough) that in itself not a problem but this time seems a lot of the local foodstalls nearby don't have their menus with an English translation either and his Vietnamese is very basic. He didn't recognize anything on the menu apart from the pictures of dogs. They decided to feast on Beer and Minties back at the Hotel, and rather than risk his mothers wrath to cut short the Da nang part and move on to Hoi An although they had made friends with a rooster at the local bar they frequented. He was noisy but harmless - just used to come and sit on their table when they were enjoying a beer.

He was telling me about some of the seedier parts they had scootered through and that kind of sparked this - seems there are quite a few ex pat Aussies over there.

BOLD MAGGIE

Bold Maggie’s fancy man was Dan
not quite your brightest spark
neither was he an also ran
for Maggie liked a lark
most places, but the park
was great fun after dark.
Marriage was not her plan.

Bold Maggie was the local tart
a blonde. Busty. Brassy.
But blessed with just the kindest heart.
None would call her classy.
She’s described as trashy
dresses rather flashy
but bold Maggie was smart.

Bold Maggie knowing looks don’t last
opportunity seized.
She knew the years were going fast
as quickly as a sneeze.
There were no guarantees
but Dan was her main squeeze
and they both shared a past.

Maggie and Dan went overseas
and there they lived like kings.
Lucky they both liked Vietnamese
the food and other things.
A chance to spread their wings
Dan’s tied to apron strings
held by her expertise.

Bold Maggie is a Madam down
at Ho Chi Minh city.
Beside a river- muddy brown,
where the girls are pretty
and some deserve pity,
there is no committee,
they work the streets downtown.

Bold Maggie found a bitter end
one humid stormy night
drinking her ca phe sua da blend.
A flash of brilliant light,
a bullet in full flight
killed bold Maggie outright.
Someone she did offend.

Nothing unusual about that...about that ... about that ...
And I feel very sorry for big busted and big hearted Maggie.

well if you knew my boy you would understand there is nothing at all strange with that Wazza   He's a bit like his Mum when it comes to waifs and strays and the likes of Bold Maggie would touch his heart for he would recognize she came from the school of hard knocks ;)
