Side note to Neville:

At Church, even the minister said "I hope they don't think that the way to win a game is to change captains at half time". He wasn't talking about football.

My view is to disregard the promises and look at my local candidates. I am not a loyal '(insert party)' voter, who votes the same every time. I suppose that makes me a swinging vote. I do look at the candidate who always supports community functions and comes along and really participates in everything to which they are invited. I also was very impressed when the candidate herself, phoned us, asked first if we were free to talk or should she ring later for our convenience, and then introduced herself and her ideals. I asked about a local matter and she even rang back with a response. She got my vote.

It was very amusing a couple of years ago when, by a protest vote, the Greens candidate 'got in'. You could almost hear his thoughts ("Shxx... What do I do now!')

I guess so Bob. It was the 'intuitive' that guided me to here.......are we over-rationalising our poetry at the expense of applauding the inspiration?

Over-rationalisation ? I doubt it Glenny.
I think that the danger to any art, is the irrational view that "rules" are an end in themselves rather than a guide or means to an end. the old; can't see the wood for the trees syndrome. And the opposite pole is equally destructive, just li'l ole spontaneous me not wanting my creativity to be hampered by the burden of pretentious " technicalities".

Artists and poets always feel unappreciated - or almost always. But then again, so do doctors, nurses, firemen, policemen, teachers, road workers...

I'm with Zondrae. I'm going be a swinger, 'cos at the polling booth is the only place I could swing! On a more serious note is was very interesting watching those 'faceless men & I guess women, become two faced and just jump ship when it suited.
Going back to Glenny's post, sometimes the harder I work at a poem the less creative, exciting or whatever it becomes or is it just that working at it makes it tiresome!!

.. regarding inspiration;

I wish there was such a thing as a thought recorder.

So that when I begin 'writing' a poem in my head I would not have to stop whatever else I am doing and find a pencil and paper, or go to the WP to get the words down. I had some inspiration a couple of days back for a great poem with a solid story line. The lines began to flow and, as I continued my task, some more lines ran through my head. I had the bones all set out. I finished what I was doing and went to the keyboard... but it was too late. Half of the lines had escaped and even though I have some bones (written down,) the rest of the skeleton falls over without them.

If I had a thought recorder I would have it with me all the time and only switch it on if inspiration raised it's lovely head.
