Dora Adores Aluminium

Dora Adores Aluminium

Perhaps it’s the feel of its touch on her skin,
The curve of its contour on cheek and on chin.
Whenever it’s near she breaks out in a grin.
Dora adores aluminium.

Plastic is pretty. Its colours are bright.
Steel is too heavy. It doesn’t feel right.
Give her the metal that’s strong, and still light.
Dora adores aluminium.

She takes it to bed when her husband’s away.
It’s great for hard work, but it’s perfect for play.
Sometimes she wishes her husband was gay.
Dora adores aluminium.

There’s frying pans, saucepans and little containers.
There’s kettles and teaspoons and vegetable drainers.
She lives with her husband’s concerned “Please explainers.”
Dora adores aluminium.

She firmly believes all the stars in the sky
Are made of that metal. She knows by and by
She’ll join with them all, when it’s her time to die.
Her ghost will be pure aluminium.

Thanks, David. That's the beauty of those floating lines/refrains - you don't need any aluminating rhymes!

Probably, Heather - followed promptly by an equally troubled adulthood, and a somewhat vexed afterlife!
