SUGGESTIVE
Maureen Clifford © The Scribbly Bark Poet
Why do the waves roll in and out why do tides ebb and flow?
And sunflowers turn to watch the sun – Grandma why is that so?
And how do homing pigeons always know which way is home
no matter if they’re nowhere near or out of their flight zone?
So many questions this child asks – but Google is my friend
and ‘your guess is as good as mine’ won’t cut it in the end.
The questions go on day and night with no respite in sight
on subjects wide and varied and most times that is all right.
We’ve covered Zombies, Witches too, Tooth fairies, Superman
and had a crack at Astronauts and also Steely Dan.
The jury’s out on some things like the Chicken and the Egg
but overall we’ve done all right and damped the powder keg.
It makes me wonder when I think - how those who went before
could answer all these questions and no doubt a thousand more.
With Google at my fingertips most answers I can source
and furnish the right answer without leading kids off course,
but how in God’s name did our forebears answer all those questions?
“Your guess is just as good as mine” was perhaps one suggestion.

Well done Maureen!! Great poem!
Had to come online to try to fill a request for a poem for a funeral, and thought I might check out what you had for homework - who knows, might even see whether the muse is still around!!
It's been conspicuous in its absence lately!! (well, maybe for a couple of years!!
)
