Homework 1/12

Post by Neville Briggs » Mon Nov 24, 2014 7:43 am

I'm not satisfied with it Maureen, but had a go.

The city lights are brighter than the farm;
A super highway, not a track for horse
And coaching days. Escape the past and go
Into the future, that's my special dream.

They showed me how to feel a brave hero;
Just for a while, but somehow things got worse.
I need to feel a hero, one more hit,
And then I'll fix things up, get clean from it.

Good on you Neville - and I think you have hit a lot of the problem on the head - the young ones always think the grass is greener in the cities and some are so out of their depth there that they are easy prey and they all think that the habit can be kicked only to find it far from easy. Your poem gives food for thought I reckon

I may not always succeed in making a difference, but I will go to my grave knowing I at least tried.

Thanks Maureen, I am glad that you found that sense in a brief eight lines. I've had some measure of success then. ;)
