Drinking Mates

Drinking Mates

Clarrie and Mike were drinking mates
they spent their life at the " Western Star "
each and every day would find them
perched up at the public bar.

And drink ! these two could swill them
beer pots disappeared with glee.
Followed up with rum or stout for chasers
after every two or three.

They were what you might call regulars
to all who came from near and far.
Plaques with their names were fastened
to their spots up at the bar.

They had been sitting at the bar one day
since the doors had opened wide,
and now it was close to three p.m.
though time was on their side.

With twenty pots or more consumed
plus a rum or stout or two.
Clarrie made a movement
to stumble to the loo

As he climbed down from the bar stool
his face was looking poor.
He fell in a drunken stupor
and lay unconscious on the floor

Mike turned and looked at Clarrie
and in a voice both slurred and gruff.
That's what I like with Clarrie
he knows when he's had enough.

G/day Bob
What do they say - one's too many and two's not enough.
