Bimblebox 153 Birds Poetry

Post by Bob Pacey » Sun Jan 18, 2015 10:15 am

Like Maureen I also have penned a poem in support of The Bimblebox Birds Project. I do believe that they have some birds left still to allocate ? and there is an art programme as well Neville and with your talent you would be welcomed. Have a look at the facebook page Bimblebox153birds. for an update.

My selected bird was The Squatter Pigeon.

They will be aired on the ABC shortly.

The Squatter Pigeon

A quiet mournful cooing
a glimpse of brown brings it undone.
A rustle in the undergrowth
a flash of white reflects the sun.

I move just a little closer
camera poised , the perfect snap
My foot presses on a small twig
it echo’s like a thunderclap.

For a moment there is silence
then the air erupts in sound.
The whirr of beating wings
as the Squatter leaves the ground.

A flash of iridescent green
leaves me standing there in awe.
I marvel at it’s beauty
as I watch it climb then soar.

It spreads it’s wings in celebration
as it glides to sights unseen.
Across a virgin unspoilt landscape
of golden yellow, emerald green

I wonder what its future holds
as its birthplace do they steal.
we can but try to keep it safe
from the miners cutting steel.

The camera’s lowered slowly
as through this unspoilt land I roam.
There will be other perfect pictures
for this is Bimblebox it’s home.

It looks as though the Brimblebox art project is an "on-site" undertaking. Looks interesting , I'd love to rough it with the arty campers , but it's beyond my reach.

I read your poem, slowly.

I went and had a careful look. It is hard for me to navigate the site but it seems that the art and print project is finished and gone on exhibition.

Just got a reply from Jill and all the art section is taken unless someone pulls out Nev but they still have 20 birds yet to be allocated for the poetry section if you or anyone else is interested.
