Homework prompts for w/e February 9th 2015

Post by Maureen K Clifford » Mon Jan 26, 2015 10:14 am

Well what a great response we had to the last prompt - so many sea shanties and watery verses - seems we may indeed have saltwater in our veins. Well done everyone

This fortnights challenge - if you are up for it is to write an Aussie themed Cinquain - shouldn't be too hard for you mob because a Cinquain only has 5 lines but there is a catch ( I can hear Bob grumbling already  ) Of course you can have more than the one verse if you can manage it

Cinquains are five lines long. They have 2 syllables in the first line, 4 in the second, 6 in the third, 8 in the fourth line, and just 2 in the last line. Cinquains do not need to rhyme, but you can include rhymes if you want to. Try using this formula to write your Cinquain:

2/4/6/8/2

Title
Subject
Description
Action
Feeling
Conclusion

Here's an example I found - Don't know the author so hope they forgive my use of it. I think they have taken a liberty with the last line and pronounced it as emp-rers 2 syllables rather than emp -er-ors but that's poetic licence :D

UNTITLED CINQUAIN

Penguins,

penguins - White, black

waddling, swimming, eating -

they are playing in the water

Emperors[/i]

Sounds pretty easy doesn't it? Wanna bet? :o Let's see who is up for the challenge.

Hi Maureen, this ain't going to be easy and this particular dingus is already confused. In your example, penguins, the title is used as the first line of the five line poem, but your formula differs in that the title is not a part of the poem, duh :?

Sorry Wazza - I don't know what the title was of this piece - Penguins is the first line not the title. I've altered the set out to make it clearer :D
