Tally me the times you took
the time to stop
to smell the roses on the way.
Tally me the times you gave
the time to save
a friend in need of time of day.

Count me up the words you spoke,
the hearts you broke,
the shattered dreams you cannot mend.
Count me up the metaphors
that counted more
than heated breath cast to the wind.

The total sum, your total worth
from resting place to place of birth
lay balanced in a ledger book,
and should you care to take a look,
one hopes in pages there you'll find
less tallied 'cruel', and far more' kind'.
