Homework WE 26/12/16 - Rapunzel

Post by Shelley Hansen » Sat Dec 24, 2016 5:44 pm

Well, this is another interesting mix of prompts, Maureen! I thought I should finish off 2016 on a whimsical note, by channelling one of my favourites of Grimms' Fairy Tales ... Rapunzel.

RAPUNZEL
(c) Shelley Hansen 24/12/16

Rapunzel ... Rapunzel ... let down your hair ...

He climbed golden braids to her window,
the moon shone its beam through a cloud.
He breathed whispered words, spoken softly -
too cautious to voice them aloud.

The switchblade tucked into his garter
was easy to reach, to defend
her honour and safety if challenged.
Undaunted, he'd fight to the end!

Imprisoned up high in a tower
she knew no way out of her plight -
no breeze through a wide open doorway,
no stairway to lead her to flight.

The dark sunless minutes ticked slowly,
she longed for the coming of morn
which brought cherished love and rejoicing,
and hope, dimmed by night, was reborn!

Rapunzel ... Rapunzel ... let down your hair ...

Thanks Maureen! Yes, those prompts were not easy - but you know how I can't resist a challenge! ;) :D
