No papers, can't prove your identity? So sad ... then Immigration will send you back to The Alice ...

Try throwing your children overboard, that might work ... :o

I think you've got the makings of a good novel there Ross, but good luck
getting it published in this country - believe me. :o

My brother is a newly arrived refugee from Darwin - couldn't stand the, you know,
(the elephant in the room) situation that is out of control up there. :(
We let him in as he had a passport and promised to pay his own way. :)

Ross you have raised a couple of very sensitive issues that I think need discussing and thoroughly airing but all I can do is wish you the best of luck because as far as I can see both topics have been completely hijacked by the politically correct.

I was watching one of the sensationalising programs on the TV a few nights ago, if you can believe the 'illegal immigrant' that they interviewed, and I can't think of any reason for him to lie, it would seem that contrary to the beliefs of many people on here, and indeed in the community generally, these people mainly are illegal immigrants rather than refugees! The bloke from I think Sri Lanka went into great detail about how the process of illegal entry to Australia is acheived. He also made no secret that the people he knew about are in fact not fleeing persecution but simply looking for a better and wealthier way of life.....pretty much exactly what Dennis and I have been trying to get across. Of course a lot of people will choose to ignore this slant on the truth in preference to the warm and fuzzy feeling they get about accepting illegals as refugees, I found it strange that no-one else has mentioned this....or perhaps I am the only one who saw it.

This thread so far has been very informative for me - my thanks to everyone.

Ross, I enjoyed and related to your travel story/situations - escaping Alice Springs.

My slant is - MY COUNTRY - is being taken over by 'stealth'.
It became obvious when - Integration not Assimilation - was the decision.

The old 'Aussie' to which I still relate and desire to retain is rapidly depleting.

Less and less do events/galas/celebrations simulate or praise my/our Aussie lifestyle,
not even the poor bits, in and around this immediate area.

People, commiserate if you will, grieve if you must.
But recognise, that which we and our forebears strove to attain, albeit originally from a takeover, is being usurped and will never return.

"Bugger"
Jim.
