just who will have a go

Post by william williams » Sun May 22, 2011 11:00 pm

]WHO SAID POETRY WAS ON THE WAIN
I HAD A LOOK AT A 2010 PUBLICATION
WRITTEN BY CHILDREN FROM GRADE 3 THROUGH TO GRADE 8. FROM

THROUGH OUT AISTRALIA.

And now they are now asking for works for 2011.

There are 624 pages in the book and there are 7 pages I repeat 7 pages of contributor.

Not all are ABPA standard? BUT THERE ARE SOME.

So why can we not take a leaf out of their books and take note of what must be done
Instead of running around like a dam chook with its head cut of.
I have tried to help by trying to entice you all into making a CD for us all to enjoy
But nearly all of you in the FORUM are two dam lazy to have a go because of very feeble excuses

Now I will name those who are willing to try BILL WILLIAMS, BOB PACEY, GLENNY PALMER, FRANK DANIELS, MAUREEN CLIFFORD, DAVE SMITH, NEVILLE BRIGGS AND KEATS has stated he would be willing to supply a piece I haven’t asked GREGORY NORTH yet but I am sure he would

Three Moderators HEATHER, ZONDRAE, PEELY, PLUS OUR PRESIDENT MANFRED VIJARS. Have failed to say a word about it. It says a lot about our leaders don’t it

Kids are not idiots some are dam good at writing yet there seems to be very little done about encouragement except by a very, very small number of members from the ABPA who help

I have the distinct feeling that membership is waning please correct me Gregory if I am wrong, but that is the feeling that I am getting. I know there are a lot of you that think I am a rabble rouser or an idiot

I DON”T RIGHTLY CARE BUT AT LEAST REMEMBER I”LL HAVE A GO.
WILL YOU

Hi Bill
I don't think anyone thinks you are a rabble rouser or an idiot!! You are great at what you do, and I personally enjoy your poetry.

I did pm you about the CD back in february to find out when you wanted the tracks by, though admittedly I have not had a chance to get back to you to find out how to go about it, but am still interested. Didn't see my name among the list of ones interested, nor the ones that haven't shown an interest!! Hmmm, does that mean I'm invisible?!? ;) Or I shouldn't follow it up?? :?
Good on you for trying to get something going - if you are still going to go ahead with it, can you let me know how I record a half decent audio track please. Have not done that before.

One thing to remember here Bill is that although we are members of the ABPA, there are a bigger percentage that never participate online. Their diplomatic right, and a lot of us that live our poetry life away from reviews from other members. In the last month I have posted about 10 times, a lot for me, but I have also done 9 shows, written two columns and a workshop in that time and have four solid days of performing coming up, all covering about 2000 kms, after that I drive to Charters towers for 8 weeks performing every night. This is my life and has nothing to do with the ABPA, as far as having to report on everything I do along the way. As keen as I am about my craft, there are only certain points I can wrangle over with other members without a) getting myself in the pooh or b) having someone pinch my jobs. So as far as sharing things, I think most members are pretty generous but what you read here is not a reflection of everything going on in the poetry circle around the country. I know about ten leading poets who are lucky to have time to scratch their bums, let alone get embroiled in online arguements, but who, in fact, do more for the promotion and stability of bush poetry than any organization ever could.
Just another view

Think that is all anyone can ask Keats - You and Bob and Glenny and many others are flying the flag for all to see and good on you . Most people do what they can and what they feel comfortable doing - we all have time restraints or restraints of some kind and so some folks are perhaps not so active in posting and writing but enjoy reading what goes on and no doubt rolling their eyes at some of the banter and fol- de- rol on site.

I think we do a pretty good job considering and we all have much to offer and should be grateful for that.

Just a thought here Bill as I know how passionate you are about the CD, but the original idea behind it was that people perhaps with reading difficulties could hear our work and as an adjunct to that perhaps??? a bit of money might be raised from sales that could go towards charities. In light of the fact that we now have an audio section here on line the first part of that equation is now somewhat negated. So perhaps the timing is not quite right at the moment for this project as it was originally put forward .....could/would there be a use or an area where a CD could be put together of what we have and used as perhaps a marketing tool to promote ABPA eg with local radio stations

Any thoughts on that out there????

If not then perhaps for the moment the project needs to be put to rest - for it won't fly unless it has support.

Cheers

Maureen

I hear you loud and clear Keats and others in now way would I ridicule your ability and your help that you and 10/ 15 others have given so tirelessly. Two years ago I think we had about 500 members now that would equate to 3% of people like Keats who are doing the lions share of the work. How many have we got NOW GREGORY ?.
We, or should I say I do not wish to encroach on the good work that KEATS ETC are doing but there is so much more that we can do, even if in a small way to increase our art. OKAY! Now no more shall I mention about CD’s ETC for you are now on your own, sink or swim that’s your decision

I agree with you Bill, it's a fine thing to do something to build up the comradeship of bush poetry.

I think encouragement will go a long way in that regard rather than any sort of rebuke.

Remember the old Johnny Mercer song back in the forties...Accentuate the Positive. ( you should be able to remember back that far Bill  )

Not our job. Our job is to moderate discussion on the forum. To make sure posts are on topic and are not offensive.

Also, as far as I was aware, the ABPA is a democratic organisation and people have a choice to partake in what they like, should they desire to. Some of us are exercising that right.

Dear Bill, your passion is admirable, but trying bludgeon people into handing over some their works to a great 'unknown' is innapropriate!! Trying so shame those people who may not wish to, will not win you many friends.

Maybe you could show a good grasp of what's required by presenting proposed layouts and artworks, cost of publishing, copyright issues and disclaimers. And most importantly, method and costs of distribution ... and NEW market penetration.

With respect,

Manfred.
