Now Dave ! settle

I've got this book by Bruce Simpson* and he tells how there were blokes who lived out in the remote station areas and their job was to service bore pumps. The only human contact they had was once a week from the ration truck. Bruce Simpson says that some of them were avid readers and could discuss very well some things like philosophy, anthropology, astronomy and comparative religion.
What do you reckon about that?

Ðave once knew a bloke who reckoned I was taking advantage of him "cause I was using them long words again!"
While my vocabulary was admittedly superior to his, his mechanical and "hands on" knowledge was so wonderful that I could never hope to emulate him.
Horses for courses I suppose. If I had my choice of who I would be stranded on a desert island with, him or a professor of English, guess who I would choose

Looks like your writing has an attack of the Bill's, Dave.

Not too sure on that one Nev. Some people know a lot about a little and others know a little about a lot !!

When I was in the Supermarkets I had a saying posted above my desk.

Pick the right people for the job, train them well then get out of their way and let them do the job you hired them for.

Some who expounded their own virtues and came accross well in an interview situation were useless at the practical part of the buisness.

My original boss and trainer told me once . Just remember Bob most people fail not because of their ability but because of their personality.

Common sense goes a long way.

There's some good common sense in all of that Bob.

I see the word scholar connected to the word school. So I think a scholar is one who is willing to listen and learn. I think your Boss saw that, and that's what he meant by personality.

What's the matter Glenny, you seem a bit overwrought :) I'll have to post you up a bottle of Hunter Valley white for a calming medicinal. :P

Well I reckon you can have all the knowledge in the world, but if you don't have the common sense to apply it, and you don't have the nous to know how to make it work in actuality you have got squat. But I could be wrong. :?
