No Bob, I am saying that if we want to stick to a preferred form, metred and rhyme, that we should give as much attention to good practice in metre as much as we give to rhyming schemes. Our verse should scan.

It takes a lot of practice, lots of mistakes ,( I've made plenty ) and willingness to learn. And very importantly; time spent reading widely in well established poets' work.

I don't nag like this to be spiteful but because I believe that what I am saying is an encouragement to better practice of what Manfred calls ' our craft ".

I am not sure what you mean by bush poetry ceasing to be fun. Do the football players stay away from training days, ignore the coaches directions, take no notice of the position of other team players, drink copious amounts of booze just before a game , because they don't want to stifle the fun of being a footy player ?
Do our Olympic athletes think that the grind of discipline is all worth the effort when they have the pleasure of receiving the gold medal ?

I'm not talking about poetry contests, I mean our gold medal is a work of poetry worthy of the name. It is enormous pleasure, if you can do it ?? I'm still hoping and trying

If we are going to draw attention to a definition that says something like bush poetry is metred and rhymed, please note one thing..metred and rhymed, METRED and rhymed,metred and rhymed.
Are we ? We are not....are we???

Martyboy your analogy of playing footy in the bush works but so does Neville’s.

If your out for a bit of fun on the footy field or at writing poetry you can have fun with then the rules can by relaxed a bit.

If you are playing football at the elite level or writing gold medal poetry then the rules will surely apply.

As for the banter be it light-hearted or deep and meaningful try and keep the blood pressure down a bit afore ya all burst a blood vessel.

Yair Marty I like what you write, some time humour and some time touching like your double tap piece. I also like Neville’s posts they always make me think and often run and get the dictionary,
in fact I like this whole site, with the good poems the bad poems the fun and the gibberish I think I have said before it’s better than TV.

As for the AIMS I believe they are, to foster good rhyme and good metre in our bush poetry along with lots of camaraderie and good-natured banter.
