Seriously Terry, I do apologise and did not mean any offence ... Yourself and others have raised valid points (and continue to do so) and, as a result the Forum is now open for Read-Only browsing by the general public ...

My concern and reluctance was based on security issues, and on advisement from industry peers was advised on the appropriate settings for the 'browsers', The Forum is now "Open" ... :)

Thank You All,

Manfred.

Hi Manfred,
No you didn't offend me mate, I was more concerned you may have thought I was, as mentioned, laboring the point.

I do however think this is a good move, we may as well showcase our poems to anyone who'd like to read them, after all that's why we write them isn't it.

Cheers Terry

I popped in this morning and it looked different and I had to check to make sure that I hadn't stayed logged in from my last visit.

So let's see if this makes a big difference to the visitors. Well Mannie I guess time will tell.

Thank you again for your efforts.

G/day Darren,
It may take awhile for people to get used to it again but I'm sure they will come.
The pages fill much quicker these days with a lot more poems being posted, so you wont see as many hits on the opening page as in the past, but hits will continue right through the old pages from now on. (I think)

Cheers Terry

Hit me your rhythm stick, hit me, hit me
Hit me slowly, hit me quick but don't give poetry the flick
Hit me, hit me, hit me

I've noticed a lot more "guests" today on the site but wonder are they members that have not logged in or real guests?

Now that the whole of the forum is open to the public I wonder if the off topic chat should be private to members only. I say this because we tend to share a lot of personal information - photos of children and grandchildren, talk about going away etc. We do that because most of us have known each other for some time and a lot of us have actually met each other now and we are friends - but do we want the rest of the world to know what we are up to - who is on holidays for instance (presumably the house is empty) etc.

Just throwing this up for discussion. I don't know if it is possible or not or what you all think.

Another thought. Do we now need some guidelines as to what is and is not appropriate to talk about on a public forum or the language that is not appropriate? Anyone can view it - children included.

Heather :)

Sorry Mannie, your work never ends does it? ;)

Sorry folks I might have missed something here I thought we were only talking about making the poetry and yarns ect open for public viewing ?

I think Heathers comments are very revelant and should be addressed post haste ?

Just as an observation. I posted a poem last night and it has had about 80 views at this point in time which I think would have been most unusual when the forum was "closed" so I think it has made a difference already.

Some good points Heather,
Ideally you'd only have the poetry and yarn Spinning open but are we asking too much of Manfred.
Shouldn't be too difficult to tone down the language if necessary, and I suppose we could cut out anything that could be dangerous, there's always PM if you really want to say something like that.
I've watched each time I've come on and there are definitely more visitors and I expect that number will grow as they find the forum open and they are likely to arrive anytime in the 24 hours.
Having read of the problems Manfred faces with unwanted BOTS etc. let's hope we don't ask too much of him.
