G'day Marty.
Sure is a whopper.
There are some big roots in that old fella.
Up to about 12 years ago I did a lot of wood turning in the back shed, there is some Toona Australis around here.
The best wood for turning was at the base of the tree near the roots (cranky grain).
I used turn some fantastic bowls, The cedar would come alive like the flames in a fire.

Good to hear from you John. Hope you're keeping well. Yes the red cedar (red gold) is an exceptional timber. There's unfortunately very few of the big old giants of the forest left now.
It's also a tree the botanical boffins have felt the need to change its name - it is now called toona ciliata.

Hey Marty is that Bay she's growing some and got some clothes on too must be all that rain A.
John when you were wood turning did ya use BUSH wood ha ha.
I have done a bit of turning my self all the fance stuff but now just stick to things like table legs and such.

Yes, there are still Cedar trees around here (scarce). Messmate, Coachwood, Black Wattle, Silky Oak (wild) Peppermint Gum, to mention a few.
Did you use a jig to get a perfect match, a slot bar, or cut a template?
A friend from WA sent me some Jarrah now and again: heavy-dense wood but used to tool like butter.
I think Marty's Stump would have some good turning material.

John I have a full size drawing with all sizes marked pinned on a sheet of ply clamped to the back of my lath in direct line with the job at hand, then use callipers and steel rule all under a bl***y good light.
You are right about the Jarrah being dense and nice to turn and it take a polish very well, about 4 hrs to turn the legs and an other 4 to polish, in the back of that photo you can see some pine legs for a coffee table takes nearly twice as long as it tends to tear a lot, but it’s all fun hey.
