I was going to say that was casting aspersions on my family tree, but he was known to have a tipple.

An extract from The Moreton Bay Courier 14/7/1860

A shockingly sudden and accidental death occured in the early part of this week. An old inhabitant named Patrick Pacey, a taylor by trade was found dead in the river on Monday morning his head being frightfully contused. From evidence given at the inquest, and from the result of a post mortem examination, we gather the deceased was seized with an apoplectic whie on the precipitous and rocky bank of the river just above the hospital and that his head came in contact with the rocks as he fell in. When found his hands were clasping, with a grasp of death, a dog, which had been attending him, and it is supposed that he must have seized the animal with the hope of saving himself.

Patrick Pacey's ( his son ) Waistcoat which is 150 years old. Patrick Pacey (a Roman Catholic) married Ann Bloxsom (a protestant) in 1854. Patrick's father was not pleased that his son was marrying a protestant and displayed his anger by throwing a tailor's iron at his son, breaking his nose. Later, he repented and made Patrick a waistcoat for his wedding. This is the actual waistcoat worn by Patrick Pacey that has been conserved using the money from the raffle, donations totalling $815.00 from Pacey descendants and the remainder generously paid for by the Brookfield Show Society.

The "conserved" waistcoat is on display in the Brookfield District Museum located at the Brookfield Showgrounds.

Will post a picture if I can get it small enough.

Cheers Bob

That's a great item on your family history Bob. A bit of a tragedy, but it is a superb memorial. Wonderful photograph, I think the oldest photo in my family history goes back to only about 1900 or thereabouts.
