Hey Dave I've got a dog that appeared in a TV show. Actually it was two dogs, cast as the pampered pets of a rich, rather silly middle aged lady.

So let's see how close to reality that is ...
pampered pets - yeah
rich owner - nah
middle-aged lady - nah, older than that
rather silly - spot on.


The show was that awful thing that was shot on the Gold Coast - 'The Strip'

I forgot to mention a recent TV " rural " show called MacLeod's Daughters, I think the fiction in that was, that putting an akubra on the heads of powdered and coiffurred city actors immediately transforms them into country types.

So the question is maybe, are these popular novels going to be about rural life or a the city book market's imaginary notion of what rural life might be ?

Hey Mannie I was a fan of Rush and don't think I missed an episode and to think you were in it all the time. WOW. That is a fabulous photo by the way. Presume the hollow log is the resident dogs quarters and yet he/she is missing??

I always knew Leonie your little dogs had a special aura now I know why - hope they have got their own special scrapbook of memories.

Neville, you're such a cynic! (Or does that fall into the category of inexcuseable personal comment, I wonder...?) The article was written by one such author. She made the point that this trend has been building for a decade, so there are plenty of books already out there, as Maureen has intimated. The author was actually making quite a show of the primacy of authenticity - urging would-be authors of rural fiction to 'write what you know' - be it living on the fringes of a country town, a cattle station, the high country, the desert, whatever.

Do I qualify as I was one of the extras that travelled with the Lorne Green rodeo show when it toured Melbourne and Sydney show grounds . I would be dressed as an Indian at one stage the next time a Cowboy in between rodeo riding many tales could be told about that show but Lorne Green aca (Ben Cathright) and his wife treated us well
