Thanks Manfred,

That's great news, as Dave said, you see it all happening on TV and can't help but be concerned for our friends who are caught up in it all. Good luck the rest of our Queensland friends as well.

Regards,

Terry

Great to hear both Maureen and Leonie are safe and well - having been to Maureens house, I know how close to the river she is.
Hope all other members are also safe and well!!

Here, here!

Float on my prayers my friends.
Lets hope the girls have their memory stick with all their poetry hanging round their neck. (priorities!)

My Uncle Clyde and Aunty Tess who pop up in my poems, lived by a little gurgling creek. On occasion it morphed into a raging monster and their house was inundated several times. Now there are concrete culverts to contain the creek and a block of shops over it.

However.... it still becomes an unleashed monster from time to time and comes up through the road gutters etc and swamps the intersection and several low lying homes. The last event we had here was 1998. Must be due soon. All we need is a couple of days rain and a full moon (king tides) and all the little creeks along the coast overflow. The council has bought some of the homes that flooded last time and pulled them down and made green spaces and - so called - retention basins. (and put the rates up).

Thanks Manfred, good to know that our friends are OK. Lets hope things are able to be repaired now, it's hard to imagine that we were in the grip of a widespread drought for many years and they were talking of recycling sewage water !!

Had a laugh Zondrae re the memory stick - here I was lying in bed at a a friends house about 3.30am thinking OMG I didn't grab my poetry - or a lot of other stuff - far less a memory stick. And was also agonizing because I had forgotten to get Ellyssas favourite tennis ball from the garden and now it was going to float away - value 3 for $2 at Crazy Clarkes, although I did grab Baby her little stuffed Zebra

Funny how the mind works - a friend said make sure you take your valuables and jewellery. Want to know what I took apart from some clothes and food and all the dogs beds, toys etc?

A photo of Khadizia my pit bull - dead now over 7 years

My Great Grandmothers necklaces over 150 years old and very rarely worn

A jade bracelet my son paid about $2 Australian for on his last trip to Vietnam

The Judy Nunn book Territory that I was currently reading that was to good to put down

The file of electrical equipment warrantees and how to use instructions with their lifetime guarantees - cause their lifetime could effectively be over and the paper would have been worth squat. No life no warrantee ,,,Lifetime has expired.

In the rush to get everything up high I discovered I owned a cordless drill - never used - don't even remember buying it but had been thinking over the past few weeks - I must buy a cordless drill) Funnily enough I had bought a Karcher only last week - might come in handy that.

2 pair of shoes that I rarely wear as they are so uncomfortable and one pair of joggers that I never wear because they are a size too small.

Funny thing is I really thought I was organized and had everything that I would need

Humour is still good. I went over to see if the workers needed tea or coffee as I had power and they didn't - One bloke asked if I had any Tim Tams which I didn't - Oh its OK they are on special at Coles he said. Our Coles store here was waterlogged to the roof and possible won't reopen. At the edge of the water up the hill a bit from Coles someone had placed a yellow sign often seen in the supermarkets when a spill has occurred. Caution - slippery when wet. Another bloke spotted wearing a T Shirt with the words - God is coming - quick - look busy.

Brisbane has always been known as The River City - it winds like the dreamtime serpent through the heart of her. Today she truly is the river city.

Cheers

Maureen

There's a poem in that surely Maureen? A disaster not only brings out the compassion but also the humour and the humour gets blacker as the months go on and the pain isn't so raw.

It's funny the things we take in a panic situation. I have two friends that when evacutating their homes from the fires, - took their ironing baskets! (One even took her iron!) Which in actual fact turned out to be a good thing because they had the clothes that they had recently worn.

My memory stick stays in my handbag with the car keys so it goes where I go - always! If you are burgled and lose your computer you still have your memory stick.

You certainly need a sense of humour at a time like this!!

I think that list sounds like a perfectly sensible collection of items to take with you!! ;)

Glad to see you are well and dry - just a waiting game now I guess until you can get back home and sorted.
