Sorry Vic, I just don't understand what you mean. A poem is a poem BECAUSE it is written in a certain way. That's what metre means, the words and lines are measured out into a particular pattern, that's the characteristic of a poem.Vic Jefferies wrote: a good poem remains a poem however it is written.
You might as well cut the Mona Lisa into several pieces and after looking at each piece declare that you wonder what the fuss could be because there is little artistic merit to be found in these pieces. The thing can only be understood or received correctly if it is presented in a complete work as the maker intended it to be.
The story about the fire extiguisher sounds like one of those urban myths. Even if true, it is a comment on post-modernism not an assessment of modern art.

Post-modernism seeks to destroy the concept of logic. Jaques Derrida said so.
The Emperors New Clothes era, as you say Vic may well be upon us, but it's name is post-modernism not just simply contemporary practice.
Same thing really, Bob.Bob Pacey wrote:You sure you were in the police force Nev or in politics

Though I am not sure Bob, Ross what a political answer might be in this context.
You just need to think on those things.
