Musta bin a poet who first settled my neck o' the woods. Some locality names in the Bellinger Valley...

Wild Cattle Creek
Deervale
Fernmount
Promised Land
Never Never Creek
Darkwood
Sunny Corner
DieHappy State Forest

and of course, they are all accessed by the arterial road running through the valley that connects the coast to the plateau...called Waterfall Way.

(We do have some more typical Oz place names too...Killekranke Mountain, Urunga, Kalang, Bongil Bongil etc.)

Cheers, Will.

Strange place names - a couple of little Mallee towns only a handfull of K's from each other are Nangiloc and Colignan . . . don't know the story of how they were named but they're just up the road from Hattah.

Yes a peaceful drive from Mildura down through the orange groves and vineyard there nestles a massive outdoor DE Bortli winery. Then on past Nangiloc to Colignan and the entrance to the Hattah national Park bordering along that peaceful quiet Murray river. Lonely sand bars peaceful camping and good fishing and there at the end of the gravel road is Hattah. Eat you heart out mate we don’t have cyclones there Warooa

As I have mentioned before, I used to live at Buckleboo but the little bush school I attended was at Pinkawillinie!...derived from blackfella names, Buckleboo...'land of the death adder'....don't know about Pinkawillinie.

Pinkawillinie :? Not sure I want to know what that means. The BeeGees went to Humpybong School in Queensland. They got a lot of comedy mileage out of that name over the years. :D

The Dexter eyelid is the right eyelid.
I dug this up some time ago when researching the Man from Ironbark in which the 'barber had his dexter eyelid shut'.

Regarding names, near Lithgow NSW is the Vale of Clwydd -- you will note there are no vowels in its spelling - it is a Welsh name pronounced Cloowid

Another place near Braidwood that I pointed out to Heather on our recent cooks tour from Bungendore is known as Jembaicumbene. Pronounced Jimmy ca bean.
