Yeah sometimes one has to sift through the detritus and trawl through the mire (rhyming slang = quick as a wit) to unearth some pearls of diamonds (ie. wise cracks) in amongst the seething froth of clicheville. And that journey - in hindsight - can be, at times, more rewarding than the destination . . . . . grasshopper

Ah! but what about: 'unearthing pearls of diamonds in amongst the seething froth of clicheville!' what a ripper! such words of wisdom could have come from the tomb of Solomon himself!
