One of the best spoonerisms (nervous or otherwise) I've heard was from one our local ABC radio presenters when a recent cyclone was imminent - he got "your emergency kit should have" a bit mixed up
ps. I always make sure I have one now when a cyclone is looming

One of my pet hates is the people who tell us about building up to a crescendo. The word crescendo means; building up to a high point. Crescendo is not the high point.
They should say building up to a climax, but the danger there is big guffaws from vulgar yobbos.

And contribute in the mouths of latter day barbarians has become contri-BEWT.
Also I find that flying machines in Australia are now airplanes !! who stole all those lovely aeroplanes.
I love airplane jelly, airplane jelly for me. The metre's all out !!!! they're destroying our traditional poetry.

So true Nev!! Now that we've introduced Americanisms into this conversation, what about alOOOminum? That one always annoys me. We don't ride the lift any more (we take the elevator), and we tread the sidewalk instead of the footpath.
I worked with a young bloke who became a father a couple of years ago. One afternoon he announced he was leaving early to catch the shops so he could (and I quote) "pick up some diapers on the way home"!!!!!! Stone the flamin' crows... what's the country coming to???

Understandable the Americans saying al-OO-min-UM due to the different spelling. AL-oo-MIN-um sounds like a greeting to a musical note
. Mind you try saying magnesium with an 'um' instead of an 'ium' . . . or more hilariously sodium.
The one that grates on me is the ALP using the American spelling of Labor - due to a gentleman by the name of King O'malley - or perhaps we could call him King Oh-mallee. It had been called the Labour Party from 1890 until he wanted the name 'modernised' in 1912. I'd even consider voting for them (maybe) again if someone changed the spelling back.
