Thanks Noel. I like the analogy.

Since writing this my youngest daughter has had her nose pierced. I'd rather she hadn't but at 15 she's a very determined young person who would have done it anyway before long without my permission. I figure she can at least remove it later and to be honest it is hardly noticeable. Sometimes a parent has to know when to compromise and not make too much fuss

When my son first shaved his head I really cracked up. My ex convinced me that if that was the worst thing that he did we were lucky.

My son does that from time to time Bob. He finds it easier than having a hair cut. I think it looks awful but he's old enough to make up his own mind now so not much I can do to influence him - and it does grow back.

Hey, I've found out how to put a teenager off a nose piercing. 15 year old asked what I thought of her teeny tiny stud and I said it "looked like a pimple". Oh, dear, that didn't go down too well I'm afraid. I'm a terrible mum.

I find that when i look at them no matter how attractive they may be my eyes are drawn to the thing either in their lip or nose or stuck in their tongue.


But I do not like make up either.
