How interesting that mere 'mortals' can abolish places that were in existance when the Earth was created ...
Then again the Bible (a record of God's dealings with His people) was written when the Earth was flat. Where was enlightenment then?

No more recorded dealings in over two thousand years?
Now that speaks volumes!! :?

Pardon my bemusement but no disrespect meant to any 'believers' .

G'day Manfred,

These days God (who is a woman , by the way) prefers to conduct more personal conversations. All that burning bush stuff is so anti-environment!

(and if I am suddenly struck by lightning, it's your fault) Be careful cause (as Joe says) God'll get ya.

... so Mankind is under the direction of billions of individuals saying, "God(ess) told me so?"

Now I CAN actually believe that! ... :D

Sorry Marty, I seem to have led the discussion away from your original intentions in that we are talking about religion rather than the beauty and impact of the language within the King James Bible.
There can be no doubt that it was and still is one of the most influential and important books of all time. It is however interesting to note the comment that if it was being written today the writers or translators would insist on using contemporary language because it was King Jame's idea to make the bible available to the common people.
From my reading I understand that the stories in the bible were in fact an oral history and had their origin in the Aramaic language (the language Jesus probably spoke) before they were committed to a written form.
While modern translations often make the meaning of the text more easily understood they often do not contain the same often beautiful imagery or poetry of the King James authorised version.

Just a small point Bob, I don't think I said anything about stopping going to church. My pedantic soulds has to correct the record. ;)

MANFRED. EVERYONE KNOWS that the earth is flat. I carried out a scientific experiment...looked out the window at the ground..and sure enough..FLAT.
Just ask the builders,,THEY KNOW about flat earth, they've measured it with plumb lines and spirit levels. If it wasn't flat how would you get a vertical or a level.   .

I rest my case

Well where are those lost souls now. Must be a lot of them walking back!

no folks I am not trying to take the micky out of this topic.

I often wonder if an famous Australian Writers work would have been translated like this in our modern language

Though I may ride through the plains outback
I feel no danger my dog and horse they comfort me

Those words though they say so much about life

I’ll stick to the original words in the old bible

Yea though I walk through the valley of death
I fear no evil my rod and my staff they comfort me

I'm just surprised how many Catholics there are here even if most of us are lapsed.
Marty, don't worry mate changing tack is par for the course here, I wouldn't be surprised if we end up with politics, mind you I'm more or less lapsed there as well

Cheers Terry
