AUTUMN LEAVES
The lights of Sydney Harbour
are a fading memory
as I drive this diesel truck into the night
The thought of coming home
is enough to keep me warm
as the autumn winds chill everything in sight
There’s a photo on the dashboard
of a love I left behind,
a woman dressed in lavender and white.
And the line down the middle
of this old familiar road,
is guiding me back home to you tonight.
The autumn leaves make tapestries
upon a frozen ground
while the branches of the trees lay cold and bare
I hope you’ve not grown cold on me
while I’ve not been around
By first light of the morning I’ll be there
There’s a mist over the valley,
a frost upon the field.
A flock of snow white water birds take flight
As the first few rays of sunrise
announce a brand new day
and morning sun brings everything to life
There’s a lamp light in a window,
a swing upon the porch
and a woman dressed in lavender and white
and the line down the middle
of this old familiar road
Is guiding me back home to you tonight.
