I am far from being a monarchist - in fact I would be happy for Australia to become a republic - but I do admit to having the greatest admiration for our new King, and wish him and his Queen Consort a long and happy reign.

The Coronation of the King will take place 'midst the splendour
of ancient stones at Westminster - a cherished holy place.
He's waited for so many years ... decades to earn this honour
Newspapers time and time again urged us to 'watch this space.'


St Edward's Crown resplendent with garnets and tourmalines,
along with rubies and sapphires will grace our Monarchs head.
It's solid gold and heavy - and duty is heavy too
but he'll handle it with grace and style - 'twas for this he was bred.


Queen Mary's crown will grace the silver hair of Queen Camilla,
reset with Cullinan Diamonds -precious original stones
which our old Queen called 'Granny's Chips' -they are downright enormous.
Inherited and dearly loved - quite fitting for the throne.


And now at last it's happening, a King and his Queen consort
will take the vows together - and a nation they will serve
He'll hold the jewel encrusted orb in his hand as did others
since 1661 - but today the whole world observes.


The Sovereign's Orb, a golden globe surmounted by a cross.
reminds the monarch that their power is derived from God.
The sceptre represents the sovereign's temporal power
a spiritual authority, a jewel encrusted rod.


All symbols of significance - traditions on display
with pomp and elegance on show as only Britain can
and though he is a King and as such deserves respect -
may we always remember that he's also just a man.


Over his years 'in waiting' he has time and time again,
endeared himself and shown that he has passions unreserved
towards saving the planet for future generations
the first climate king expert and he makes sure he is heard.


Safe habitat for wildlife and sustainability
are subjects very dear to our King's heart
and perhaps the time he spent as a student here in Oz
in its way has played a most important part.


But Charles is quite the diplomat - he is nobody's fool.
He's a man of the people, but only history will tell
how well he'll rule - for as we know these are difficult times.
though I for one have confidence that he will do it well.

Nicely done, Maureen. It was fantastic to witness this wonderful, historic event in our lifetime with all its spectacular traditional pageantry. Long live the King!
