I’m a recreational fisherman and regardless of the passion (read that as addiction) that keeps me going back to the water, there are times when I swear I’ll never bait another hook.
But then again…

I’ve cancelled all subscriptions to me fishin’ magazines
where the legendary anglers reign supreme.
No more fightin’ with the missus over where to keep me bait.
No more sleepin’ rough, with ‘fish bonanza’ dreams.

No more Evans Head or Yamba. No more Tangalooma trips.
No more checkin’ out the boat shows every year.
No more Straddie Island Classics. No more yabby banks to pump.
No more “One last cast” or “Let’s try over here.”

Think I’ll put my rods on E-Bay. Give the berley to the chooks.
Take all my fishin’ photos off the wall.
Get up late on Sundy mornin’s. Take the missus to the shops.
Drink espresso at ‘Ricardos On The Mall.’

I’ve had enough of early morns and late night river trips
where the sandflies were the only things that bit.
I once was optimistic, and a masochist to boot.
Got my life back now. That’s it! The end! I quit!

But hang about. That’s Stevo’s ute that’s comin’ up the drive.
Looks like he’s got some crab pots in the tray.
Hey darl, ya seen me esky? And where’d you put me hat?
Be right there Steve. No sweat, I’m on me way.
