ROVER'S CHRISTMAS GIFT

Post by Jeff Thorpe » Mon Jan 14, 2013 10:23 am

Having just been through the "Silly Season", here's a bit of trivia to match

ROVER’S CHRISTMAS GIFT

You could be forgiven thinking Rover is a dog,
the name itself, would indicate that’s so.
Any canine though, would never match the slog
that Rover’s done for years with little woe.

My Rover is a mower and it’s a little beaut,
now aged thirty-three and going strong,
victor over grass and weeds and many a tree root
Rover and hard work just string along.

Remarkably resilient when one stops to think
how little about engines that I know.
Now and then Rover gets a little oil to drink
plus a new spark plug though, ‘twas many moons ago.

Given this, I s’pose I should not have been surprised
when Rover became ill in mid December.
Wouldn’t start despite every treat that I devised,
nothing like this had hit as long as I remember.

Christmas thus for Rover was spent in the sick bay,
no new blades or oil beneath the tree,
Sales next day saw mower prices near to give away,
just how much did Rover mean to me?

I must admit I thought it, “was it time to euthanise?”
Rover’s fate lay squarely in my hands,
and while it was tempting for me to authorise
a burial, instead I opted for some mower scans.

This strategy effective, with mower Doc’s report
that Rover’s belt had room for lots more notches.
With integral replacement parts placed to hold the fort,
Rover would last longer than pricy Swiss built watches.

New condenser, points, air filter, blades and filter plug
see Rover now the envy of the street.
All those dark proposals have me painted as a thug,
having had the nerve to class old Rover as dead meat.

It’s been a tough experience looking over these last weeks
with Rover squeaking out of a close shave.
By mower terms, I guess there’s been more troughs than peaks,
in truth though, it’s quite likely I’ll beat Rover to the grave.

I luv it Jeff! The thought of euthanising a lawn mower - very imaginative.

Good fun Jeff - Now that you have delivered the coup de grace to Rover you could replace him with an ergonomic one called Woolly    but for gods sake don't give him oil

I may not always succeed in making a difference, but I will go to my grave knowing I at least tried.

G'day Heather & Maureen

With Rover now back to health, my attention's turning to the whipper snipper - know even less about these than mowers.

Regards, Jeff
