FLATHEAD FISHING

FLATHEAD FISHING

I’ve been working lately
Been working hard all week
No use in me complaining
The boss won't let me speak
But I’ll be fine come weekend
When I go wet a line
I’m going flathead fishing
Got fishing on my mind

I’m going flathead fishing
Down at Caddy Creek
I just sit here wishing
To end this working week
Reeling in them flathead
Toss them on the pan
When I go flathead fishing
I am a happy man

The wife want stop her nagging
She says there’s chores to do
Mend them broken fences
And wash them windows too
I’m leaving Sunday morning
And she won’t say a thing
When I come home on Sunday
With flathead on a string

I’m sitting here in traffic
Not going very far
Smoke pouring out the front end
Of this here motor car
Dreaming of the back roads
Where the air is fresh and clear
Dreaming flathead fishing
And wishing I was there

To fish or not to fish ?

Not a decision really.

The Fillet

The slabs of tailor, two hands high
lay limp upon the plate,
as Billo grabbed the fork and tongs
said, “Let’s get started mate.
The Barbie should be ready.
It’s been on half the day.
It’s hot enough to cook this fish
from fifty feet away.”
He grabbed the plate and turned around
to demonstrate intent.
Walked straight into the sliding door
and down poor Billo went.
“Aah struth!” he cried “I’ve broke me nose!
Bloody door! I’ll kill it!
But not to worry fellas
See! - I didn’t drop the fillet.”
